ALAVA, JULIO GATDULA, (institute of Graduate Studies, Central Luzon State University, Munoz, Nueva Ecija, Philippines. INOCULATION OF THREE TYPES OF VESICULAR ARBUSCULAR MYCORRHIZA (VAM) AND NPK FERTILIZATION ON THE GROWTH AND YIELD OF SWEET POTATO. Advisers Dr. Miguel £. Aragon
The study involved tua series of experiments conducted in an acid soil (pH of 4.9) at the Don Severino Agricultural College (DSAC), Indang, Cavite. The first and second experiments were done in the greenhouse and field conditions, respectively.
In experiment I, the growth and yield performance of three varieties of sweet potato inoculated with different types of vesicular arbuscular mycorrhizal (VAM) fungi were
studied and evaluated.
Results showed that among the three varieties of sweet potato used, VSP-2 produced the most number of tuberous roots and marketable tubers, the biggest storage root diameter and highest dry weight of tubers. Inoculation of vesicular arbuscular mycorrhiza significantly improved the growth and yield of all plants. Glomus fasciculatus increased significantly the number of tuberous roots as well 3s the number and weight of marketable and non-marketable tubers.
The interaction between sweet potato varieties and types of mycorrhizal fungi on the weight of marketable tuber and dry weight of all tuberous roots were significant. Inoculation of G. fasciculatus Significantly increased the growth rate as manifested by increase in length of vine starting from the fourth week after planting (WAP) until the plants were harvested. Increased fresh and dry weights of Vines were observed on plants in ocala text with G.fasciculatus.
The field experiment revealed an increase in length of vines, leaf area index (LAI) and weight of marketable tubers or plants inoculated with G.fasciculatus. Likewise,
a significant result was also observed on potassium content and total yield as affected by inoculation of VAM fungi.Dry matter yield had significant relationship with NAP yk contents, LAI,and length of vines at maturity. Similarly, dry matter yield established a positive relationship with the number and weight of marketable tubers.
Application of 909-460-460 kg af NPE. fartilizer significantly increased the length of vine, LAT, and number and weight of marketable tubers. Results also reveal a significant increase in dry matter yield and total tuber yield on plants fertilized with 90-60-60 kg NPE.
