Abstract: NOVERO, CHRISTOPHER B. Don Severino Agricultural College, Indang, Cavite, April 1995. " DEVELOPMENT CONSTRUCTI ON AND EVALUATION OF A MANUALLY OPERATED COFFEE PULPER A _PULPBEAN SEPARATOR". Adviser: Engr . Conrado M. Baltzar . A manually operated coffee pulper with pulp—beanseparator was developed and constructed at Naic, Cavite and was evaluated at the School of Engineering, DSÄC, Indanq, Cavite. The principal components of the machine were made up of metallic materials except the rotating cylinder and its teeth which were made of wood. The major parts are hopper—cylinder cover assembly handle—rotating cylinder assembly, table assembly and separator assembly. The rotating cylinder wasprovided with different sizes OE teeth with Flat belt For pulping different sizes of coffee berries.Actual tests were conducted using Robusta and arabica coffee varieties. The machine obtained high pulping capacity of 64 .526 g/ min using Robusta and 92. 796% pulping efficiency with the same coffee variety. The variety of coffee and angular speed greatly influenced the pulping capacity of the machine. The machine separated 52.586 g of pulp and has 72.204% separating efficiency usi arabica variety. The variety coffee and angular speed influenced the amount of pulp being separated by the machine .Dried Robusta is more preferable to use in this coffee pulper. The initial cost of the machine is P 3810.25 and can be recovered for 3. 8 yr. It has a break—even point OE 373. 47 hr./ yr. and benefit—cost ratio of 1.12 which indicate that the machine is economically viable to use. It can give an annual net income of P 1000.075 for 97 days of operation.
