Abstract: DIMARANAN, ARNOLD Martinez, Employment Status, Levels of Income and Expenditure Patterns of Employed DSAC Graduates, 1987- 1994 , B. S. Thesis, Don Severino Agricultural College, Indang, Cavite, April 1997, Adviser: Luzviminda A. Rodrin The study was conducted to determine the employment status, sources and levels of income , levels, and major items of expenditure , relationships between level of income and some selected variables such as age, sex, civil status and educational attainment and the problems of graduates of the Don Severino Agricultural College from 1987 to 1994. Ten percent of graduates for each year were either interviewed or requested to answer sets of questionnaire. From a total of 1, 257 graduates, 126 respondents were tapped as respondents in the study. The average age of the respondents was 26.3 years old. Forty Percent of the respondents where male while 60 percent were female. Fifty four percent of them were single while the remaining 46 percent were married . Seventy nine percent were baccalaureate degree holders and 21 percent were still pursuing their masteral degree . Of the total respondents, 97 percent were employed while the remaining three percent were self—employed. Seventy one percent of employed DSAC graduates were holders of permanent appointment; 11 percent, temporary appointment ; 4 percent were substitutes and 15 percent were employed either on a casual or contractual basis. The monthly income of the respondents ranged from. 2 , 250 top 12,000 with an average of P 5, 485.39. The major items of expenditure of the respondents were foods, school supplies, household items, cosmetics, clothing and monthly bills. Among these items, foods were considered the most important and first priority expenditure of the respondents . The average monthly expenditures of the respondent’s wasp 2 , 922.37 . No significant relationship existed between selected variables except for civil status which was significantly related to expenditure . This could be explained by the fact that married individual, they have more expenses than single respondents . The expenditure of graduates for the years 1987—1990 were not significantly different from the expenditures of graduates from year 1991-1994. The problem met by most of the respondents in their present employment was low salary. Many of the graduates were employed as factory workers and instructors or classroom teachers while only few engaged in farming .
