Abstract: Baurile, Marizel Espiritu. "Supply Analysis of Cacao in the Philippines", B.S. Thesis, Bachelor of Science in Business Management, Major in Economics, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 1998. Adviser: Dr. Nelia C. Cresino. 'Ihe study was conducted primarily to analyze the supply of cacao in the Philippines. Specifically, it aimed to describe the status of cacao industry in the county; mid identify the different factors affecting the supply of cacao. Secondary data from 1980 to 1996 were used in this study. Data were analyzed using multiple regression analysis. Based on the result of analysis, only the area planted to cacao showed a significant relationship with the supply of cacao (P<0.05). coefficient of determination (R2) was .6749 which implies that 67 percent of the total variation in the supply of cacao was explained by the explanatory variables such as the price of cacao, price of coffee, price of fertilizer, farm wage rate, annual frequency of tropical cyclones, government policy and area planted which included in the model. The F-value was significant at five percent level which implies that the explanatory variables included in the model affect the supply of cacao. For the urea response function, results showed that price of cacao and price of fertilizer were significant at five percent level (P<0.05). 'Ihe regressions line has a good fit with a computed R2 value of 0.52295. The F-value was significant at five percent level (P<O.05) which means that price of cacao, price of coffee price of fertilizer and farm wage rate affect the area devoted to cacao production. Moreover, the government must take a part to further improve the industry by creating policies mid agency which will directly work on this.
