Abstract: OCAMPO, JOEMAR RODIL. April 1999. Cavite state University, Indang, Cavite. "PERFUME FORMULATION FROM ESSENTIAL OIL EXTRACTS OF ROSE (Rosa sinensis), MANDARIN (Citrus nobilis) AND PINE TREE (Pinus insularis)". Adviser: Dr. Divinia C. Chavez The study was conducted to formulate perfume from essential oil extracts of rose (Rosa sinensis), mandarin (Citrus nobilis) and pine tree (Pinus insularis). Fragrant oil was obtained from these plant materials. The oil yields were 0.074% and 0.0182%, l. 13% and 0.22%, respectively. The physical and chemical properties of the oil were taken to determine the quality and purity of the oil. The following analysis were made: specific gravity, optical rotation, refractive index, solubility test, boiling range, acid value and ester value. Thin-layer chromatography was used for the preliminary identification of the chemical constituents of the oil. Thin-layer chromatography of the rose absolute indicated the presence of citronellal and citronellol. Thin-layer chromatography of the mandarin oil showed the presence of central, terpineol and camphorene. And thin-layer chromatography of the pine oil indicated the presence of a-pinene. Four perfumes of different fragrances, were formulated from the blended extracts. The result of perfume sampling showed that the perfumes made were of good quality, with a mean rate of 3. One hundred per cent of the respondents agreed that the perfumes can be mass produced because of their distinct quality not found in other perfumes. These perfumes are mildly scented and perfect for people who are suffering from nose fatigue.
