Teaching Performance and Problems of the Public Elementary School Teachers in the District of Indang for the School Year 1998-1999. Major Professor: Dr. Constancia G. Cueno This study attempted to determine the teaching performance and the problems of the public elementary school teachers in the District of Indang Il for the School Year 1998-1999. Specifically, the study sought to: describe the teachers' profile in terms of age, gender, marital status, length of service and educational attainment. determine the problems encountered by the teachers. determine the teaching performance level of teachers. determine the pupils' achievement level. determine the relationship between teachers' profile and teaching performance. determine the relationship between problems encountered and teaching performance; and determine the relationship between teaching performance and pupils' achievement level. The study made use of descriptive-correlational method of research. This consisted of describing, recording, analyzing, and interpreting the status of teachers in the elementary school in terms of their problems relating to school, teaching-learning situations, school officials, pupils and community, teachers’ performance and pupils' achievement level. Instruments used in data gathering were the teacher questionnaire, and performance appraisal system (PAST). Form 137 of each pupil-respondent was also a source of information. The study was conducted in the District of Indang Il. The respondents included 61 elementary grade teachers and 2063 pupils. me statistical measures employed were mean, frequency counts, percentage, standard deviations, Pearson-Product-Moment Correlation-Coefficient and chi-square test There were more female teachers than male teachers. Teachers were dominated by old teachers. of the teacher-respondents were married. Most teachers had been teaching for 15 years and below would only six teachers had been in the service from 16 to 20 years. With regma to educational attainment, 19 teachers (6.6%) were MA degree holders. Twenty-three (37.7%) finished BSEEd and 15 (24.6%) finished other courses, not educational but all had taken units in education. The teacher-respondents considered their problems regarding pupils as "serious". teacher-respondents had moderately serious problems with regard to their educational system, school officials, and community. were uncertain regards to their opportunity for promotion and professional growth. In terms of teaching performance, the principals gave their teachers "very satisfactory' rating. Age, gender, civil status, length of service and educational attainment were found to have no significant relationships to teaching performance. Problems encountered had relationship to teaching performance. Similarly, teachers' performance had significant relationship to pupils' academic performance.

This study attempted to determine the teaching performance and the problems of the public elementary school teachers in the District of Indang Il for the School Year
1998-1999.
Specifically, the study sought to:
describe the teachers' profile in terms of age, gender, marital status, length of service and educational attainment.
determine the problems encountered by the teachers.
determine the teaching performance level of teachers.
determine the pupils' achievement level.
determine the relationship between teachers' profile and teaching performance.
determine the relationship between problems encountered and teaching performance; and
determine the relationship between teaching performance and pupils' achievement level.
