Abstract: DARLENE I. ROZUL AND GULLIEN S LAUREANO GENDER AND COACHING STYLE PREFERENCE OF STUDENT ATHLETE IN GOVERNOR FERRER MEMORIAL NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Sport and Recreational Management. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. June 2018 Adviser: Ronnel P. Cuachin. This study assessed the gender and coaching style preference of student of Governor Ferrer Memorial National High School. Specifically, it aimed to find out the demographic profile of the respondents; find out the coaching style preference of student athlete of Governor Ferrer Memorial National High School; find out the coach gender preference of student athlete of Governor Ferrer Memorial National High School and know the significant difference between the coach gender towards coaching style preference. The researcher started to conduct the research on November 2017. The participants of the study were taken from Pinagtipunan General Trias City, Cavite. Slovin formula was used to determine the sample population with a desired degree of accuracy. Descriptive statistical tools such as frequency count mean and percentage were used to present the demographic profile of the participants and coach gender preference. Weighted mean was used to know the coaching style preference and t-test was used to find out the significant difference between the coach genders towards coaching style preference of student athlete of Governor Ferrer Memorial National High School. Results revealed that the participants agree. Majority of the respondents preferred of coaching style are teaching and instruction and autocratic coaching style behavior. The study revealed that most of the male coaches used teaching and instruction coaching style behavior and autocratic coaching style behavior which male coaches aimed to improving the athlete's performance by training and instructing the athlete in skills and techniques and also coaches makes all decisions and the performers merely do what they are told. This coach will be a strong disciplinarian and likes to be control. Implicit in this style is that coach has all information and the knowledge. Results revealed that the 144 participants, 76 (56.72 %) were male coach, while the remaining 68 (50.75 %) were female coach. This study revealed that there are far more males in coaching positions and athletic administrative positions than females coaches. This implies that most of the student athlete of Governor Ferrer Memorial National High School were preferred of coach gender was male coaches wherein the highest percentage of (56.72 %) compared to female coaches with the percentage of (50.75 %). Both female and male sports are most likely to be coached by a male. It was revealed from the study that the coach gender had no significant difference towards the coaching style preference. This means that the coaching style which democratic, positive feedback, teaching and instruction, situational consideration, social support and autocratic coaching style behavior does not affected the gender of coach because in gender-based comparisons of coaching styles and behaviors, male and female coaches have been found to demonstrate similar with minor differences.
