Abstract: BAGALIHOG, JOCELYN PANGANIBAN, "Economic Analysis of Furniture Business in Selected Towns of Cavite," B.S. Bachelor of Science in Business Management, major in Economics. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 1999. Adviser: Dr. Alice T. Valerio. A study was conducted in 11 selected towns of Cavite, namely: Bacoor, Cannona, Cavite City, Dasmarifias, General Mariano Alvarez, Imus, Kawit, Noveleta, Silang, Tagaytay City and Trece Martires City to assess the economic performance of furniture businesses with emphasis on their profitability in the said areas. The study also aimed to determine the socio-economic characteristics of the furniture entrepreneurs; the profitability of the business; and the problems encountered by the operators. Data were collected through personal interview with the furniture business operators. Forty respondents from 11 selected towns of Cavite, who were registered at the Department of Trade and Industry (1)11) Silang, Cavite were selected through complete enumeration of all furniture entrepreneurs. The age of the respondents ranged from 22 to 59 years with an average age of 36 years. Most of them attained college education and had an average number of three dependents. Majority of the respondents were married and had been engaged in furniture business for five years. average total cost in producing furniture’s was P192,134.85. After deducting the expenses from the average gross income ofP280,350.96, the average yearly net income of PI 12,091.40 was ended. It was revealed that return on investment averaged at 68 percent while net profit margin registered at 40 percent. It was found out that furniture business is a good business to pursue or to engage in. It is considered profitable depending on the output the business has to have a bright prospect in the coming years.It is recommended that the furniture business operators must have enough knowledge on how to operate a furniture business which will be a great help and a big factor to success. They must set policies regarding the late payment by the buyers if on installment basis.
