Adviser: Prof. Adolfo C. Manuel, Jr. The study determined the variability in qualitative and quantitative fruit characters of nine durian accessions collected in Bukidnon, Northern Mindanao. Four fruit samples were gathered per accession. Quantitative data were tabulated and subjected to analysis of variance (ANOVA) and differences among treatment means were determined using Duncan's Multiple Range Tests (DMRT) for test of significance. Accession 1 obtained the highest rating in terms of flavor/taste and aroma while Acc. 7 obtained the lowest. Accessions 1 and 7 obtained the highest and lowest average rating, respectively. Accession 1 was rated desirable skin texture and pulp color and highly desirable in terms of its fruit shape, pulp texture, flavor/taste and aroma. Accession 6 ranked highly desirable because of its fruit shape and pulp color yet only desirable in skin texture, pulp texture and flavor. Accessions A, 6 and 8 were highly desirable in terms of fruit weight, fruit diameter, fruit length, number of seeds/fruit and flesh thickness. The nine accessions differed significantly in terms of quantitative characters. The accessions showed the highest variability in seed weight. Seed length obtained the lowest variability among accessions. Accessions 1 and 2 had the highest total soluble solids while Acc. 7 had the lowest. Accessions 7 and 2 obtained the highest and lowest moisture content, respectively. Accession 7 had the highest ash content while Acc. 5 had the lowest. Highest crude fiber was noted in Acc. 6 while the lowest was obtained in Acc. 4. Accessions 7 and 2 showed the highest and lowest potassium levels, respectively. Based on fruit characters and yield, three accessions (Acc. 1, 6, and 8) were identified as highly desirable and promising as genetic / breeding materials.
