Abstract: DIZON, KIETHLY G., and LUNA, LOUIGH B. Architectural Analysis of the Selected Contemporary Mosques in Metro Manila. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Architecture Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. June 2018 Adviser Arch Christine Mariz G. Costa. The study was conducted from August 2017 to April 2018 at Metro Manila to inak sis tit the architecture of today's Contemporary Mosques built in the National Capital Region which is known to have the most number of registered mosques Muslim population on the northern part of the Philippines. Specifically, it aimed to: 1. To determine the history and current condition of the selected mosques; 2. determine the materials used in designing, and ornamenting the mosque; 3. identify the means and differences of the mosque characteristics, as well as the meaning of some of the decorative s(\ les and signs used: 4. identify the universal elements that characterized the main architectural Corm of the mosques which make it unique and distinctive from other forms of architecture through the basis of the guiding principles of Islamic architecture; 5. identify the factors that affect the design of contemporary mosques in Metro Manila; and 6. define the qualities and characteristics of today's contemporary mosques and promote the importance of Islamic culture, art and architecture of the Philippines. The authors applied several research methods to obtain their data. Interviews, observational search and literature search, photo documentations, as-built measuring were conducted. The study focused on (10) selected mosques in Metro Manila. Actual measurements and photo documents were gathered and compiled. The Illustrations were made through the aid of manual drawing and computer-aided software. The study stated that Contemporary mosques in Metro Manila feature elements western and local styles that exploit the traditional mosque components and the use of emerging permanent materials as a result of replication and impression of the Muslim communities or designers to mosque architecture. Even though there is an economic constraints and changes or variety in archetype of these mosques, it still expresses the spiritual components of Islam that made the Islamic faith in Metro Manila strong and united. It also stated that the architecture of contemporary mosques in Metro Manila exhibits culturally-influenced Islamic art that can be seen on the southern part of the country were Islamic faith in the country started. Serving as a symbol of the society that represent the spirit of the Muslim Filipino people. Based on the results of the study, it is hereby recommended that: 1. this must be used by architects and architecture students to further study regarding the Islamic culture and architecture of the country; 2. this must be helpful to the Muslim communities and agencies for the development of the design, conservation, and promotion of mosque architecture; and 3. further study must be conducted for more research developments about Islamic architecture of the country and cultural heritage promotion and conservation.
