A study was conducted to identify the insect pests and natural enemies of three coffee species and to compare their relative abundance in fruit-bearing coffee trees at the Coffee Seed Garden and Mixed Orchard Project, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite, from April to December 2002. The insect pests associated with Coffea robusta, Coffea excelsa, and Coffea Liberica were: cicada, leafhopper or cicadellid, gray mealybug (Ferrisia virgata) and green scale (Coccus viridis). The natural enemies found on the three coffee species were: orange coccinellid (Micraspis sp.), black coccinellid, and praying mantis. The insects associated with the three species of coffee were identified as cockroach (Supella longipalpa), green tree ants (Oecophylla sp.) and black ant (Cerapachys sp.). Coffea robusta was found more susceptible to infestation as shown by their higher relative abundance of pests in this species that Coffea excelsa and Coffea Liberica. Moreover, the population of natural enemies particularly that of orange coccinellid and black coccinellid, was also relatively more abundant in Coffea robusta than in the other two coffee species.
