BERNAL, MYRLA B. Development, Construction and Evaluation of a Motor-Operated Rotary Fertilizer Spreader for Coffee. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Engineering. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2003. Adviser: Dr. Leyma L. Cero.
A motor-operated rotary fertilizer spreader was developed at Payatas, Quezon City and was evaluated at Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite from August to September 2002. The machine was designed considering the design of other fertilizer spreaders except for some modifications and adaptability to coffee farm, availability and cost of materials used and easeness of the fertilizer application on coffee. It was composed of a hopper, feed opener and rate control lever, tension lever, speed lever, rotating plate, shaft, pulley and belt, hopper holder and stands, handle, wheels, and motor. It measured 71 cm high, 109 cm long including the handle and 58 cm wide and having an over-all weight of 36.50 kg. Results showed a highly significant difference in terms of capacity of the developed machine over the manual application. The developed machine had a relative advantage of 110.00, 110.01 and 106.43 percent in applying fertilizer to two-, three-, and five-year old coffee trees, respectively, over the manual application. The cost of the constructed motor-operated rotary fertilizer spreader for coffee amounted to P 14,316.25 .
