Abstract: AUSTRIA, DARREL JAKE T., CAMANTIGUE, MARY JOYCE D. and ELLO, MICA A. Comparative Analysis of Financial Risk Management of Selected Network Marketing and Franchising Businesses in Cavite. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Business Management Major in Financial Management. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. May 2017. Adviser: Mr. Marlon Mojica. This study sought to create a comparative analysis of the financial risk management of selected franchising and network marketing businesses in Cavite. The objectives of the study were to know the business characteristic; determine the levels of financial risk; financial risk management techniques and styles; and the effects of financial risks to selected franchising and network marketing businesses. The study also sought to analyze the effects of financial risks to the profitability of these types of businesses and determined if there is a significant difference between their financial risk management techniques and styles. The study used descriptive research design and asked the participants to answer a questionnaire .about their business characteristics, the levels of financial risks they encounter and their techniques in managing situations or risks that may happen. The participants were also asked to rate the severity and probability of risks. Basing on how the respondents rated the severity of the risk, the researchers found the probable impact of the risk on the profitability of the respondents. The researchers tried to find a significant difference between the financial risk management techniques and styles of the two kinds of respondents. The results show that a higher capital is required to start a franchising business than having a network marketing business. The levels of financial risk they encounter differ because of their nature of business. Franchising businesses deal with products with short spans of life like food, while network marketing businesses mainly deal with products with long spans of life like beauty products. The results also showed that reduction and sharing technique were preferred by both most of the respondents. It was also found that in terms of their risk management styles, franchising businesses were stricter than network marketing businesses. The need of incurring debt in case of shortage of funds and higher cost for utilities and supplies were the risks having a big impact to the profitability of both types of business. The result of t-test showed that there was no significant difference between the financial risk management techniques and styles of selected franchising and network marketing businesses in Cavite.
