Master's Thesis Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite- March 2006. Adviser: Dr. Leonora A. Mojica. This study was conducted mainly to determine the attitude towards sports and academic performance in Music, Alts, Physical Education and (MAPEH) of the high school students of Trece Martires City National High School Cavite, SY 20052006. Specifically, it aimed to: l) determine the demo-socio-economic characteristics of the high school students of TMCNHS; 2) determine the attitude towards sports of the high school students of TMCNHS; 3) determine the level of academic performance in MAPEH of the high school students of TMCNHS; 4) determine if there is a significant relationship between the demo-socio-economic characteristics and attitude & towards sports of the high school students of TMCNHS; 5) determine if there is significant relationship between the attitude towards sports and academic performance of the high school students of TMCNHS. Data were gathered using a questionnaire on the attitude of the high school students of TMCNHS towards sports. the respondents were 356 high school students distributed as follows: 99 first year; 90 second year; 87 third year; and 80 fourth year. The statistical measures employed were frequency counts, means percentage, point biserial coefficient, chi-square, and Spearman rank correlation coefficient More than one-third of the student-respondents were 14 to 15 years old, first born and their parents had college education. Majority of the student-respondents belonged to medium-sized family, had an annual income of Php 150,000 and below, with fathers who were skilled workers and mothers who were housewives. Majority of the high school students had "very favorable" levels of attitudes and had "very satisfactory' academic performance. Demo-socio-economic characteristics such as age, Sibling family income, educational attainment of parents was found significantly related to the attitude towards sports. The size of the family, gender and occupation of parents had no significant relationship with towards sports. On the other hand, the attitude towards sports had significant relationship with academic performance.
