Abstract: ESCOBAR, SANDRA BETTINA M., GUILLO, ARIANNE JOYCE P. and HURASO, JOANA CHRISTINE D. Comparative Analysis on Disaster Risk Reduction Management Between the Republic of the Philippines and the Republic of Turkey. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in International Studies major in European Studies. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite, May 2018. Adviser: Prof. Nelia E. Feranil. The study was conducted from November 2017 to May 2018 to determine and analyze the Disaster Risk Reduction Management between the Republic of the Philippines and the Republic of Turkey towards earthquake. Specifically, the study aimed to determine the disaster profile, the laws on disaster management, the Disaster Risk Reduction Management in terms of disaster prevention and mitigation, disaster preparedness, disaster response, disaster rehabilitation and recovery, and compare the Disaster Risk Reduction Management of the Republic of the Philippines and the Republic of Turkey. Secondary data were gathered from several institutions, online resources and public and private libraries. Descriptive research design and qualitative approach was used to obtain the information and to compare the Disaster Risk Reduction Management between the Republic of the Philippines and the Republic of Turkey. The results of the study showed that earthquake was the leading disaster in the Republic of Turkey. However, there were more recorded earthquake events in the Republic of the Philippines from 1995 to 2015 but storm was still the primary disaster in the country. The total number of people killed and affected by disasters from 1995 to 2015 in the Republic of the Philippines was also higher than the Republic of Turkey. The Republic of the Philippines had four laws on disaster management while the Republic of Turkey had three laws on disaster management. Moreover, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Plan 2011-2018 of the Republic of the Philippines and the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency 2013-2017 Strategic Plan of the Republic of Turkey indicated the goals, objectives, and activities of the countries on disaster risk reduction management. The Republic of Turkey also had a separate strategic plan on earthquake since it is the leading disaster in the country. In comparing the Disaster Risk Reduction Management of the Republic of the Philippines and the Republic of Turkey towards earthquake, it was noted that the Bohol earthquake and Van earthquakes resulted in heavy damage to buildings and significant casualties. The food and non-food supplies, and temporary shelter that the Republic of the Philippines provided were limited as well as the time of response was not immediate compared to the Republic of Turkey. Furthermore, one year after the Van earthquakes major progress had been made in the Republic of Turkey, The Republic of the Philippines created Bohol earthquake assistance project for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of damaged facilities in the affected areas. The project was 90% complete as of August 2017.
