Abstract: SALUBONG, ANGELITO S., SOBERANO, KATYA V. Socio-economic Status and Awareness of 4Ps Rice Farmers on Programs and Services of the Department of Agriculture in San Juan, Batangas: Basis for Social Work Intervention Undergraduate Thesis Bachelor of Science in social Work. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. June 2019. Adviser: Ms. Merlie C. Nahilat, RSW, MSSW. This study specifically aimed to (1) determine the socio-economic status of the participants in terms of monthly family income, educational attainment, years of being in farming production, numbers of family members who are working and tenure status; and (2) assess the level of awareness of the 4Ps rice farmers in program and services given by the Department of Agriculture in terms of farm machineries, Balik-binhi (seed exchange), Philippine crop insurance and rice crop manager (fertilizer recommendation). The research was supported by a quantitative approach specifically descriptive method also known as survey or normative approach. Moreover, this design helped the researchers to identify the specific problems that could help the agency to enhance and/or develop programs and services rendered for their beneficiaries. The researchers were guided by the Empowerment Theory in aiming to empower the 4Ps rice farmers and to be social related in terms of social provision given by the local auspices. In addition, they used sustainable livelihood approach, which can help the participants to improve their living condition. Data showed that that the 4Ps rice farmers were not fully conscious about the content of the farm machineries program implemented by the Department of Agriculture as well as the said free machineries that the rice farmers could borrow. They thought it had a renting fee and not free at all. They also were not familiar with some machineries. They were fully aware about the balik-binhi program where they could borrow one sack of seeds and return two sacks when harvesting season arrives. The 4Ps farmers were not fully aware about the rice crop insurance program of the Department of Agriculture as well as the benefits they can acquire as part of the program. It meant that most of the participants were slightly and moderately aware on programs and services of the Department of Agriculture. The dissemination of programs and services of the Department of Agriculture was not that concrete and consistent. The results were statistically tabulated to represent the result of the study. As part of the recommendations of the study, the participants may attain and acquire the programs and services specifically Listahanan or National Household Targeting System for Poverty Reduction (NHTS-PR), Cash for work, and different assistance provided by MSWDO. It can help the participants to enhance their living and have an additional income while waiting for the harvesting season. Having said that the harvesting period last for two (2) to three (3) months means that most of them do not have earnings while waiting so that they can ask for assistance to apply for sustainable livelihood program that the municipality offers.
