Sapinoso RM, Ph.D The study was conducted to know the risk factors involved in the phenomena of teenage pregnancy in selected barangays of Indang, Cavite. Specifically, it aimed to determine the maternal influence on teen age pregnancy of the participants. This study was conducted in three selected barangays of Indang, Cavite based on inclusion criteria, namely: Poblacion 1 Poblacion 3 and Bancod. The participants of the study were teenage mothers between the ages of 15 to 24 years old, that became pregnant two (2) to five (5) years ago, women who became pregnant at the age of 13 to 19 years old, agreed to participate in the study, coherent and able to communicate in Filipino or English. Purposive or judgmental sampling was used in selecting the ten ( 10) 'participants, wherein the researchers handpicked the six (6) participants typical to the population under the scope and criteria. The themes have been gathered from the saturated answers of the participants from the barangays: Poblacion 1 Poblacion 3 and Bancod. Guide questions were made by researchers and were checked by the experts in their field of specialization. The researchers made a semi-structured guide questions used for personal interview in three days. The questionnaire contains the demographic profile of the participants which mainly focused on their age, highest educational attainment and monthly family income. The second part of it contains the five general lead questions that were asked to the participants to initiate and start a conversation. The demographic profile of the participants shows the mean age ranging from 20-23 years old, being pregnant for almost 4-5 years, high-school graduates, unemployed and earned below 50,000 monthly family income. They also experienced being pregnant at their young age. The themes identified under maternal influences were: parenting style which contains authoritarian, permissive and uninvolved parenting style; maternal guidance which tells contains limited communication between mother and teen and lack of sexual education; and lastly, maternal outlook which has different perspective between mothers of the participants. However, there were also other influences identified: dysfunctional family relationship under family risk factors, friends who are sexually active and pressure from peers to have sex, both under the social risk factors andpeer pressure. Lastly individual risk factors include neglect and alcohol abuse. The results of the study show that all of the themes identified by the researchers greatly affected the experiences of each participants, primarily, it affect their psychological well-being which surely contributes to their experience as a teenage parent.
