Summary: "Sustainable economic development one cannot deny the roe of environmental ecology, which is either not considered or not adequately emphasized in the mainstream approach of economic growth for the developing economies. It was felt that poverty is the greatest polluter and environmental considerations are nothing but luxury for the poor countries sand poor people, but gradually it has been agreed that by following the approach of sustainable economic development the interests of both the poor and rich people belonging to both types of countries not only of the present generation but also of the future generation are protected. Tourism may have a positive economic impact on the balance of payments, on employment, on gross income production, but it may also have negative effects, particularly on the environment. Unplanned and uncontrolled tourism growth can result in such a deterioration of the environment that tourist growth can be compromised. The environment, being the major source of tourist product, should therefore be protected in order to have further growth of tourism and economic development in the future. The present book is designed in such a manner as to bring together service providers in the tourism industry, government officials, policy makers, researchers and academia for sharing experience and generating new knowledge in the thrust area of tourism."--Back cover
