Abstract: MANALO, WENCY D. Backyard Hog Fattening: An Entrepreneurial Development Project in Barangay Santo!, Balayan Batangas. Entrepreneurial Development Project Report. Bachelor of Agricultural Entrepreneurship Major in Animal Production. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. June 2019. Adviser: Dr. Magdalena N. Alcantara. The project was conducted at Santol. Balayan Batangas from December 19, 2018 to March 29, 2019. The project aimed for the student entrepreneur to: (1) experience actual hog raising; (2) gain additional skills in raising hogs; (3) acquire entrepreneurial skills in hog raising; (4) determine the actual cost and returns of hog fattening; and (5) obtain profit from a small-scale hog fattening project. The swine production enterprise used five piglets that were purchased from Calatagan, Batangas. The hogs had an average initial weight of 12 kg. The feeds were sourced from Karla's Feed Supply in Balayan, Batangas. They were fed thrice a day during starter phase and twice a day during grower and finisher phase until marketing. After 101 days of rearing, the hogs weighed an average final weight of 90.6 kg and consumed an average of 180 kg of feeds. The average gain in weight was 78.6 kg giving an average daily gain of 778.22 g. The average feed conversion efficiency was 1.85. The project had a total production cost of P 45,566. Hogs were marketed to relatives at P 125 per kilogram live weight. The total sales was P 56,795 and net income of P 15,229 was gained resulting to a 36.81 percent return on investment (ROI).
