Basics of environment -- Forest and land resources -- Water and energy resources -- Food and mineral resources -- Natural resource management paradigms.
"The earth is undergoing environmental changes that are historically unique. Increased levels of greenhouse gases are changing the climate; depletion of harvestable fish species and desertification are threatening food security and air and water pollution is affecting human and environmental health. Technical progress was almost always assumed to be exogenous and not embodied in specific equipment or skills, though more recent developments in growth theory have relaxed this artificial assumption. Output growth could then be prolonged through (assumed) technical advance. But the role of natural resources and the environment as valuable inputs to the growth process remained outside of growth theory at that time, as did possible constraints from the natural world that could lead to more rapid slowing or even a decline in output per capital over time. Environmental pollution is one of the biggest problems that we are facing right now. It refers to the contamination of the environment around us due to our activities. Therefore, a good management of natural resources involves not only controlled usage of natural resources but also the disposal of the disposal of the pollution generated due to our activities.
This cross disciplinary course collaboration fosters interdisciplinary thinking and gives students a unique opportunity, to design a tailor made stud program based on their interests.
