Abstract: DOMINGO, PATRICIA GRACE T. and MORALES, KRISSIA MAE To, Design and Development of a Low-Cost Microcontroller-Based Thermal Scanner. Undergraduate Design Project. Bachelor of Science in Electronics Engineering. Cavite State University-Indang, Cavite. May 2019. Adviser: Engr. Nemilyn A. Fadchar. A study was conducted to design and develop a low-cost microcontroller-based thermal scanner. The project aimed to help monitor, scan and log data of electrical wirings and breakers in terms of temperature. The general objective of the study was to develop a low-cost microcontroller-based thermal scanner. The study specifically aimed to design and construct the circuit for thermal scanning; design and fabricate the thermal scanner; develop a program for the thermal scanner; test and evaluate the performance of the thermal scanner; and conduct cost computation. The materials that were used in the study were: infrared temperature sensor, lithium-ion batteries, battery charger, microcontroller unit, OLED display, RTC module DS 1307, Micro SD Card module, buzzer, LED, buttons, switches and laser pointers. The thermal scanner can be used to monitor temperature and review the following data gathered through an SD card inserted. Monitoring the temperature, selecting the modes and logging data are the major process developed for the system. Results of the evaluation showed that based from the evaluated accuracy of the feedback and quality of the outputs, the thermal scanner was considered desirable and effective compared to manual process of thermal scanning. The study was proven effective on its capability to meet its objectives. Thus, it helped to present the advantages in performance of the low-cost thermal scanner and make it a more reasonable choice for monitoring temperature and reviewing data for further inspection. The low-cost thermal scanner had a total cost of P 3,5 15.00
