ABSTRACT
MELANI R. HERMOSO, ROMMEL M. MATEL and WILSON C. VELASQUEZ. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. March 2002. “ Steel Design of Three Storey Building for the College of Economics, Management and Development Studies”. Adviser: Engr. Marcelino A. Dagasdas Jr.
The Steel Design of Three Storey Building for the College of Economics, Management and Development Studies was conducted at the College of Engineering and Information Technology, Cavite State University. The analysis of the building frames and truss was made through the aid of the Structural Aid in Analysis and Design III (STAAD Ill). This software basically analyzed the linear behavior of the building.
The main medium used was steel to enhance their knowledge in steel designing. The scope of the study was limited to linear behavior of the building. The structure was analyzed for combined lateral, seismic and vertical loads. Majority of the beams and columns were wide flanges. All the connections were fully welded and moment resisting.
The seismic analysis and other parameters were based on the existing codes and specifications of NSCP 1992. The Allowable Stress Design (ASD) Method of AISC - 1989 was adopted for analysis, design and checking of the structural members of the
buildings.
The main objectives of the study was to analyze, design and develop a Steel Design of three Storey Building for the College of Economics, Management and Development Studies to determine the estimated cost for the Administration, Physical Planning Unit (PPU), and the College of Engineering and Information = Technology for the future implementation of the project. The study also aimed to develop a scaled model to present the outcome of the design.
The study showed the variation of loading on the structural member that produces different section. To provide uniformity and aesthetic effect to the entire building without affecting the economy, strength of the structure and safety of the future user, the structural members adopted were the largest along those particular sections.
