Abstract: ANTINERO, JOSEPH VERGEL BANASIHAN and BALANGATAN, HAZEL TRINIDAD "A Valuation Study of Students' Willingness to Pay for Laboratory Improvements in Physical Science Department of Cavite State University". A Special Problem, Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics (Major in Statistics), Cavite State University, Indang Cavite March 2004. Ms. Analiza S. Pacia. The study on "A Valuation Study of Students' Willingness to Pay for Laboratory Improvements in Physical Science Department" was conducted from Nov 2003 to March 2004. It aimed to estimate the mean amount the students are willing to pay for the laboratory improvement in STAT 1, PHYS 2 and CHEM 7; evaluate the most preferred plan of the students for these laboratory improvements; and identify the factors that affect the students' willingness to pay for the laboratory improvements in STAT 1, PHYS 2, CHEM 7. The study used survey method through a self-administered questionnaire on the students enrolled in STAT 1, PHYS 2 and CHEM 7 during the second semester SY 20032004. Different plans for different subjects for laboratory improvements were introduced in the questionnaire for STAT 1, (Plan A) provision of an air conditioning unit in laboratory room, (Plan B) provision of an air conditioning unit and personal computers (PC) with ratio of one PC unit to three students in the laboratory and (Plan C) provision of an air conditioning unit and personal computers, but this time one student will be assigned to one computer. In PHYS 2, (Plan A) provision of an air conditioning unit in laboratory room, (Plan B) provision of an air-conditioning unit and adding of laboratory equipment’s and (Plan C) provision of ideal laboratory room. In CHEM 7, (Plan A) pr0Vision of an air conditioning unit and exhaust fan in laboratory room, (Plan B) provision of an air-conditioning unit, exhaust fan and adding of laboratory glassware and equipment and (Plan C) provision of ideal laboratory room. Most of the STAT 1, PHYS 2 and CHEM 7 students preferred plan C and are willing to pay Php 100 for the laboratory improvements. The mean amount that the students are willing to pay for STAT 1 is Php 144.82, PHYS 2 is Php 151.37, and CHEM 7 is Php 176.25. Using logistic regression analysis, it was found out that in STAT 1, there was no variable that has a significant effect on the willingness of students to pay for laboratory improvements; in PHYS 2 the variables BS CoE2, BS A2 and if it was their first time to take PHYS 2 significantly affect the willingness of students to pay for laboratory improvement; and in CHEM 7 using model 1, the variables father's educational attainment (College Undergraduate) and number Of siblings significantly affect the willingness of students to pay for laboratory improvements and in using model 2, the variables mother's education attainment (Elementary Undergraduate and High School Graduate) and number of siblings significantly affect the willingness of students to pay for laboratory improvements.
