Their sources of market information were the wholesalers, retailers, consumers and their friends. The usual market buyers were wholesalers, retailers and consumers. Majority of the farmers were paid in cash. The average amount the buyers paid to farmers was ~4.00 per piece. Farmers' method of sale was not affected by age, educational attainment, number of dependents and tenure status. One of the seven socio-economic characteristics that affected the farmers was the place of Sale. Income derived from watermelon farming was dependent upon the method of sale. The problems of farmers on their production were lack of capital; nigh price of planting materials, fertilizer and pesticides recurrence pest and diseases: Lack of much needed help from efficient technicians, and lack of technical Knowledge- The most fre-auently mentioned problems in marketing watermelon were competition among growers, in the individual sale of product, high transportation cost, lack of storage facilities and lack of knowledge in storage. Suggestions mentioned by farmers to improve watermelon production were: 1) provision of bigger capital 2) Guidance from efficient technicians; (3) proper caring or supervision of the plants, and 4) the right season of planting.
