This farm practice was conducted at the backyard hog pen of Vilma Angeles of Barangay II, Indang, Cavite from September 13, 1984 to February 28, 1985, a period of 113 days with an ultimate objective of trying to test a specific feeding scheme by using pure commercial feeds to fattening swine.
The piglets were given commercial feeds twice a day such as hog starter mash, hog grower mash, hog fattener/finisher mash, cono rice bran. Supplementation of napier grass and Ipil-ipil leaves were given in the afternoon. Fresh clean water was provided at all times. During the entire period of the farm practice, hogs consumed a total of 450 kg. of feeds and exhibited a feed efficiency of 4.13 kilograms which resulted to a total weight of 129 kilograms live-weight.
After deducting the total expenses of P 3,622 from the gross income of P 3,812.00, the project incurred a net return of P 190.00.
