Abstract: The project, "Establishment of Backyard Nursery for Orchard Plants in Bancod" as an income generating project was conducted from August 1984 to February 1985. The establishment of the project aimed to develop a give and take relationship between the trainee and the farmer about the techniques and practice in growing crops. The field which covered an area of 2, 000 sq.m was utilized in this project. The activities was started by cleaning the area, preparation of soil medium, which is composed of garden soil and fine sand, preparation of planting materials and construction of partial shade. First week of September, transplanting of coffee seedlings and black pepper cuttings was done. On the third week of September, preparation of seed bed for santol, coconut, jackfruit and avocado was made. Hand weeding was done whenever necessary to safeguard the young plants against any insect infestation and to lessen the competition for nutrients and moisture. Split application of fertilizer was done to enhance the rapid development of the plants. First application of Urea starter solution was done one month after transplanting the seedlings in individual plastic bags at the rate of one tablespoonful peg• 5 gallons of water. The remaining fertilizer was applied one and a half months interval at the same rate using the same method of application. It was applied by watering the seedling with the solution. Spraying was done when there were pest attacking the plants. Watering and inspection of the project was occasionally done to find any change in growth and development of seedlings.
