The farm practice project entitled "Profitability of Tomato (Marikit Variety) was conducted at Barangay Lumipa, General Emilio Aguinaldo, Cavite from September 1985 to February 1986. This project aimed to help the farmer develop abilities in generating income by adopting effective and proper farm management practices. Specific-ally, it aimed to disseminate to the farmer an effective and profitable way of maximizing tomato production. An area of 2,500 square meters planted to tomato was used for the project. The variety of tomato used was Marikit variety. A seedbed was prepared for seed germination. The seedlings were then transplanted on September 7, 1985. Side dressing of complete fertilizer was done at the rate of 65 kg/ha. The tomato plants were cultivated twice. The first cultivation, which was off-barring, was done two weeks after transplanting and hilling-up was performed two weeks after the first cultivation. Harvesting of tomato was done 90 days after trans-planting when the fruits showed signs of ripeness as manifested by change in color from light green to red. Marketing was done by the farmer cooperator in the public market of General Emilio Aguinaldo at the prevailing market price of P8.00 per kilo. At the end of the growing season, the farmer cooperator grossed' P1, 996.50 from tomato. After deducting the total expenses of P930.00, a net income of P1, 066.00 was realized from the project.
