Abstract: This income-generating project "Profitability of using BPI-1 Variety and Population Density of Corn" was conducted at Iumipa, General Emilio Aguinaldo, Cavite in the field of Mr. Elpidio Beltran, farmer cooperator from October 1985 to February 1986. This project aimed to maximize farmer's income through the introduction of high yielding variety and proper spacing of corn. Approximately one (1) hectare field was prepared thoroughly by plowing and harrowing it twice with an interval of one week. Planting was done by sowing two to three kernels of corn in a hill with a distance of 50 cms per hill and 70 ems between rows. Hilling-up was done five weeks after planting to loosen the soil and to suppress the growth of weeds. Fertilization was done twice. The first application was applied basally and 'the second application was done when the plants were already knee-high. After three and one-half months, the crops were harvested, and the corn ears were dried- under the sun after the husks had been removed. The corn kernels were dried before marketing, thus, giving a gross income of P2, 870. A net income of P565.00 was realized after deducting the total expenses.
