A Farm Practice training was held from October 1986 to February 1987 in Bancod, Indang, Cavite to determine the production of peanuts when intercropped with corn. It aimed to enable the students to integrate theoretical knowledge with practical work experiences and contribute to countryside development; to gain the necessary skills on peanut and corn production; and to establish an income generating project to finance college expenses. A 5,000 square meter field was plowed twice to allow the weed seeds to germinate as well as give the soil a fine tilth for planting. Land preparation preceded by planting of corn and peanuts was done in October. A 50:50 peanut corn combination was used. This was done by alternating four rows of peanuts with two rows of corn. Distance was 25-30 centimeters apart. Occasional weed-ing and cultivation were done to kill the weeds as they grew in the plantation. Harvesting was done after the crops reached matu-rity which were manipulated by yellowing and drying of leaves. This was done 95 days after planting. Corn was harvested and peanuts a week later.
A total of 50 cans of peanuts and 20 cans of corn was harvested. The products commanded 070.00 and 025.00 per can respectively. A net income of 01,290.00 was obtained in this project after deducting total gross income by total expenses.
