A farm practice entitled “Feedlot Fattening of Cattle through Forcefeeding Method” was conducted in Cabuco Trece Martires City from September 25, 1986 to February 8, 1987.
One feeder stock with an initial body weight of 220 kg. was used in the conduct of this joint activity by the Student Outreach Agent and the farmer cooperator.
Soilage feeding with a mixture of various roughage and forcefeeding with rice bran and ipil-ipil leaves was done. Concentrate ration was forcefed for a duration of one month only.
The fattened cattle attained a total gain in weight of 75.36 kg with a final bodyweight 295 kg. The dressing percentage realized was computed to 58.30 percent giving a carcass weight of 172kg.
At the end of the project, the fattened cattle was marketed through the DSAC-OFBO on a dressed weight basis. The project had total expenses of P6, 515.00 and made a gross sale of P7, 224.00 giving a net income of P720.30 as a labor return.
