This project was a joint activity of a farm practice student and the school. This was conducted at the East Piggery Project of Animal Science Department, Don Severino Agricultural College, Indang, Cavite from September 15, 1987 to February 15, 1988.
Hypor and Petrin hogs were used in the project as feeder stocks with an average initial weight of 15 kilograms. The three weanlings were provided with commercial starter mash and gradually shifted to grower and finisher mash. During the growing period, hogs were supplemented with cassava leaf meal at the rate of 15 percent level. The hogs were fed three times a day using a wet method. Cassava leaf meal was preferred beCause it is a good source of nutrients such as protein and nitrogen content.
Five months feeding trials were made which helped attained an average final weight of 109 kilograms and feed efficiency of 3.83 kilograms,
It was noted that 15 percent level of cassava leaf meal could be incorporated in feed mixture without any adverse effect on the growth performance of hogs.
At the end of the project, the three finishing hogs were marketed in live weight basis. The project incurred a total operating expenses of P7,155.00 with gross income of 710,540.00. A net margin of ¥3, 383.00 or an average of 71,128.33 per hog was realized,
