Abstract: The author conducted her farm practice at the Pig-gery Project of the Don Severino Agricultural College, Indang, Cavite, from October 21, 1 981 to March 1, 1982. A study, entitled "The Performance of Growing-finishing Hogs", was made to determine the profitability of producing hogs for market and to know the problems being en-countered in hog raising. A project proposal and a feasibility study were prepared to be able to secure loan from the DSAC Agricultu-ral Education Outreach Project. The amount of P4,900.00 was secured for this income generating project. The amount loaned was spent for the five initial stocks of Yorkshire and Landrace breeds, the feeds, medicine and other veterinary needs. Housing was provided by the college. The following management practices were employed, namely: disinfecting the pens, three times a day feeding during the first two months and two times a day feeding du-ring the last two months. The hogs were dewormed once and were weighed monthly to check on their monthly gain. One hog suffered from "Pasteurelosis". Although the Pig was able to recover, the gain in weight was very low. Such that the total marketable weight of the five hogs after four months reached 433.5 kilograms only. These were sold P5,042.00 only when the total expenses incurred was 75,159.05. Thus the project suffered a loss of 75.75. The author did not get any monetary return from the project but experience wise, the farm practice proved beneficial. The actual exposure to hog raising gave the student concerned a chance to apply all the theories she has learned from school.
