Abstract: This farm practice was conducted at the DSAC-SAKA piggery site from December 1990 to March 1991 to harness and enhance the student's knowledge in agri-business theories and to gain management and manipulative skills in operating a backyard hog fattening project. Five weanlings were used in the project. They were fed with commercial hog starter mash during the first month and hog grower mash during the second month. Starting the second week of the third month up to marketing, commercial hog finisher mash was given to the animals. Feeding was done twice a day - once in the morning and once in the afternoon. Fresh and clean drinking water was made available at all times. Strict hygiene and cleanliness was observed throughout the duration of the project. The pen and its surroundings were cleaned daily to pre-vent possible disease outbreak and parasites infestations. The hogs were dewormed on the first and second month of the project operation. Aside from the relatively poor feed conversion efficiency, the average final body weight and feed consumption of the hogs were lower than the projected. However, the project gave a net income of P 962.20.
