Abstract: A farm practice was conducted at Ding Poultry Farm, at Buna Cerca, Indang, Cavite from August 22 to October 8, 1993, to develop home management, manipulative and entrepreneurial skills of the student and to assess the profitability of a backyard broiler project. Seven hundred and fifty day-old broiler chicks were used in the farm practice. Birds were fed with a commercial chick booster mash in the first week of brooding, followed by a commercial broiler starter mash from second to the fourth week. They were shifted to a broiler finisher mash from the fifth week to the time of disposal. Proper management practices were followed throughout the operation of the project. The rearing period was done for 48 days. At the termination of the project, the birds attained an average body weight of 1.63 kg and consumed 3.593 kg of feeds that led to a feed conversion efficiency of 2.2 kg. The project gained a net income of P7,268.33 and a return of investment of 19.12 percent. Mortality rate was 2.59 percent. Nineteen (19) birds died during brooding and rearing period.
