The farm practice was conducted to provide the student an opportunity to gain experience in the actual operation of raising swine, to harness his business ability and to evaluate the project profitability by using different production parameters. This project was conducted in Cavite RRP Swine Project in Tambo M. Kulit, Indang, Cavite from July 1, to October 30, 1994. Ten weanlings, having an average initial weight of 15 kgs were used in the project. The animals were fed three times a day during the first month of project operation with commercial hog starter mash. Hog grower mash was given to the animals twice a day during the second and third month and hog finisher mash on the fourth month using the wet scheme. The ten hogs consumed a total of 2600 kg of feeds on an average of 260 kg per hog. Feed conversion efficiency was 2.79%. The hogs reached an average final body weight of 105 kgs after four months of project operation. After four months of rearing, the hogs was marketed on a liveweight basis at P50.00/kg. Total sale income amounted to P52,760.00. The project incurred a total expense of P39,025.97, a total gross income of P52,760.00 and a net income of P3,734.53 or P1,373.45 per hog. The return on investment was 35.20%.
