The project aimed to provide the student hands - on training on the production of tomato, showcase the benefit derived from the use of cultivar Tabeth 103 and rice straw as mulching material, and develop entrepreneurial skills through the actual management of an income generating tomato production project. The project was established in a 1,000 square meter field located at the production area of Central Experiment Station of Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite from September 1997 to February 1998. All the appropriate cultural practices including mulching of rice straw specially on tomato were employed. The technology resulted in the production of 1,617 kilograms marketable fruits of tomatoes. The gross sales amounted to P19,841.00. After deducting the to tal expenses of P14,498.97, a net income of P5,342.03. The return on investment (ROT) was 36.84 %.
