Abstract: PELAYO, RAVEN MAE G., PENAFLORIDA, ALEXANDRA P., and PRUDENTE, ABIGAIL, Challenges of Solo Fathers in Dasmarinas City, Cavite.Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Psychology, Cavite State University, June 2019. Thesis Adviser: Imelda R. Filart, RPm. This study was conducted from January to February 2019 in Dasmarinas City, Cavite to know the challenges encountered by solo fathers through the use of narrative approach. Specifically, it aimed to answer the following: 1. challenges they encounter being a provider, and caregiver; 2. what are the adjustments they did as a solo father; and 3. how solo fathers compensate for a mother’s absence. The study utilized qualitative design incorporating narrative as a methodology which intends to extract particular topics from eight solo fathers. The researchers used purposive and snowball sampling. The semi-structured guide questionnaires were made by the researchers and it was validated by the experts which used as a research instrument. The results revealed that most of the solo fathers were staying in their family side so that when they are working, their sibling or parents helped them to take care of their children. They also had a hard time balancing their time to their work, doing the household chores and taking care of their child or children. Also, solo fathers were already capable of taking care and raising their own child or children, but some of them still wanted to have a whole family for the sake of their child or children. Five (5) main themes were leading up from the interview: balancing time between work and taking care of their own child or children, providing the financial needs of their child or children, doing the household chores and capable of raising their child or children with and without a partner.
