Abstract: GONTINIAS, JELIAN C. and TUBAL, JUNNAH L., CITY BEAUTIFUL: An Architectural Profiling of Facades of the Structures Built in Manila during the American Era. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Architecture. Cavite State University - Don Severino De Las Alas Campus, Indang, Cavite. Adviser: Ar. Elda Magna Guinto. The study was conducted on August of 2018 until April of 2019 in different areas in Metro manila, Philippines. It aims to architecturally profile the facade of the selected buildings. Specifically, it aims to describe architectural elements, architectural features and architectural styles used by the buildings selected. It also aimed to discuss the history of architecture in Manila, the historical significance of the buildings studied and briefly introduce their respective designers. The study was conducted to produce a book that will infinitely preserve the architectural history of buildings in Manila built during the Second World War which are historically significant in the Philippines. It can also serve as reference in identifying or differentiating architectural styles, architectural features, and architectural elements used or can be used in a structure which would be helpful to students, specifically architecture students and architects alike. To conduct the study, the researchers gathered data from the National Library, the National Historical Commission of the Philippines, the web and also conducted an interview. The researchers also conducted a photo documentation and drew the facade and details of the selected buildings featured in the conducted study. The study focused on the architectural profiling of the facades of selected buildings by drawing, identifying and describing the architectural elements and features present. The study conducted showed that all architectural styles are evolution and intermixtures of one another to create a new revolutionised architectural style. The study also concluded that the architectural styles used in the buildings in Manila during the American era are brought by the colonial architects and Filipino architects who had their training in places where the styles originated.
