GONZALES, EDGARDO ABENILLA. Yield and profitability of Selected Honeydew Cultivars Grown under Different Types of Trellis. Master's Thesis Master of Science in Agriculture. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2016. Adviser: Dr. Arnulfo C. Pascual.
A study was conducted to determine the variety of honeydews that give best result in response to different trellises; the type of trellis best suited in honeydew production; and to prepare a simple cost and return analysis on honeydew production. Growth and yield responses of experimental plants were evaluated in terms of number of days to flowering, number of days from flowering to harvest, fruits weight (kg.) and fruits diameter (cm.). The study was conducted at Farmers Training Center and Technology Demonstration Farm (FTC-TDF) at Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite from October 2015 to January 2016.
The experiment was laid out using 3 x 4 split plot design conducted with a variety
of honeydew as Factor A and different type. trellises as Factor B. Three varieties of honeydews and three types of trellis were used in the study. Each treatment was replicated three times and arranged in a randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD). Pest incidence in the experimental plants was observed. Fruit quality in terms of weight and diameter were measured and compared among experimental plants. General acceptability of fresh honeydew fruits were determined by sensory evaluation.
Results of the study showed that cultivar 3 (Silver World) out pet-fonned all other Cultivars in terms of weight of the fruits followed by Cultivar 2 (Jade Lady) which ranked second and Cultivar (Brilliant) produced the lowest yield among the three culti\ ars evaluated. Cultivar 1 (Brilliant) and Cultivar 2 (Jade Lady) gave the highest general acceptability rating among the three cultivars evaluated.
