Abstract: BURGOS, ESTHER MAY D., JACINTO, PHOEBE ANN L. and SOLANO ROSE MAE D. Application of Cognitive Ergonomics in the design and development of Information Kiosk for Cavite State University. Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering. Cavite State University,Indang, Cavite. June 2019. Adviser: Engr. Gerry M. Castillo. Finding locations or certain areas in a massive site could be a difficult challenge for people who are new and unfamiliar to the place. To minimize or eliminate problems associated with time delays experienced by visitors and new students, the researchers designed an information kiosk. The objective of the study is to determine the existing process of acquiring information to new students and visitors in Cavite State University-Main Campus; identify the common problems encountered by new students and visitors inside the university with regards to acquiring information; develop an organized information system that will provide easier access to information regarding the facilities location and admission process within the university; and evaluate the information kiosk that was designed for Cavite State University-Main Campus. In connection to this, the following findings were obtained. The present system of acquiring information in Cavite State University is in line with the existing channels used by students in acquiring certain information. These channels include personal and phone inquiry, the Student Handbook and the university website. Moreover, the existing problems encountered by new students and visitors with regards to acquiring information were categorized into: information quality issues, multiple source issues, process related issues and human-related issues. Problems related to information quality are the lack of details of some information, extensive information, information that are difficult to comprehend, and inaccurate information. Process-related issues include occurrence of errors in the process, time-consuming process, and repetitive cycles. Moreover, in the presence of multiple sources of information, encountered problems were inconsistency of information among the sources, occurrence of unrecognized sources, and inaccessibility of the source. Furthermore, problems such as difficulty in locating sources, and difficulty in the use of media are the problems categorized under human-related issues. In the following the define, measure, analyse, design and verify (DMADV) process, the researchers were able to design and develop an information kiosk for Cavite State University. The system was designed to give useful information related to location of buildings and student transaction such as the pre-admission process, registration process, and authentication of Transcript of records (TOR). The information kiosk for Cavite State University was evaluated and rated excellent by the respondents. Based on the results of the evaluation, the system is reliable and efficient. Also the functionality of the system was rated excellent as well as its usability.
