Abstract: MATALOG, GINA C., and ONTE, MA. KRIZZIA G., Disaster Preparedness of Households in the Barangays Along the Callas River of Tanza, Cavite. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Development Management major in Training Program Management. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. June 2019. Adviser: Mr. Alberto M. Aguilar. This study was conducted to determine the disaster preparedness of households in the barangays along the Callas River of Tanza, Cavite. Specifically, the study aimed to describe the demographic and socio-economic profile of the participants; determine : the household's level of preparedness in terms of hazard knowledge, formal and informal plans and agreement, supportive resources, life safety protection, property protection plans and/or measures, initiated recovery plans and/or measures; the participants reasons for preparing or not preparing for a disaster in their households; ascertain : if there is a significant relationship between the family monthly and types of housing towards the level of preparedness of households. The study adopted a descriptive and correlational methods of research. The participants came from the eight barangays in Tanza, Cavite. Systematic random sampling determined the number of participants per barangay. A total of 266 participants were interviewed from December 2018 to February 2019 using a pre-tested survey questionnaire. Data analysis used frequent counts, means, standard deviation percent, chi-square test and spearman rank. A 4-point Likert scale measured the level of preparedness in the six dimension of disaster preparedness. The participant were "somewhat prepared" in five parameters and "very prepared" in one of the parameters used in this study which is hazard knowledge. Frequently mentioned reason for preparing for disaster were "to ensure the safety of their family (26%), to evacuate easily (17%), and to avoid greater damage of the disaster (15%)The reasons for not preparing for a disaster given by participants were lack of budget for disaster preparedness, and lack of knowledge in disaster preparedness. The family monthly income had a significant relationship between the level preparedness of households. There was a significant relationship between the type of housing material and the level of preparedness of households. The housing infrastructure has no significant relationship towards the level of preparedness. Based on the findings of this study, the following conclusions were formulated; the participants are mostly female within the age range of 18-80 years old. The average of participant's income is P5,460, while their family income is P17,649. Majority of the participants consider themselves as prepared. It can be concluded that the household areas need more knowledge and information in terms of Life and Safety Protection and Initiation recovery particularly in areas where low scores were obtained. The following recommendation are given: authorities should have regular disaster preparedness training and seminars in the barangay. Since the lowest level of preparedness was in life and safety protection, the authors recommend that the authories should focus on this situations. Since the study only utilized one Municipality, further studies on disaster preparedness covering other municipalities may be done to gather additional facts and data. For future researchers, studies may focus on initiation recovery of the households.
