Abstract: RAMOS, ROMMER C. Applied Research IV (Agri-Science Curriculum), Don Severino Agricultural College, Indang, Cavite, March 1992, "Effect of Vernalization on Gladiola Flowering". Adviser: Mrs. Edna A. Vida The study "Effect of Vernalization on Giadiola Flowering' was conducted in Indang, Cavite to determine the effect of different duration of vernalization on the germination growth and flowering of gladiolus. A total of 300 gladioli corms purchased from Los Banos, Laguna were placed inside the refrigerator at different length of time. Treatment included the following: qT under room temperature; To 8 weeks vernalization; Ts 9 weeks vernalization; T, 10 weeks vernalization and Ts 11 weeks vernalization. These corms were arranged in an experimental lot using a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD). Highly significant results were obtained on the average number of days from planting to germination and on the average height of plants 2, 3, 6 and 8 weeks after planting. Significant results were obtained on the percent germination, length of plants 4, 5, and 7 weeks after planting and on the average number of plants that flowered. Non-significant differences were obtained on the average number of days from planting to flowering and the average length of flower spikes. It was found out in this experiment that 11 weeks of vernalization (Treatment 5) was the best duration of vernalization of Gladiola. Plants which were not vernalized (Treatment 1) exhibited the poorest performance in all plant characteristics.
