Abstract: OLEGARIO, MERRY ROSE J., SATUR, BLESSIE MAE M., ESCALANTE, VARHIELYN M., TIMBOY, ROSALINDA P. Perceived Challenges and Opportunities among Bachelor of Science in Midwifery Students During Covid-19 Pandemic in Cavite State University. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Midwifery. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. June 2022. Adviser: Dr. Bernadette A. Sapinoso. The study was conducted from April to May 2022 in Cavite State University (CvSU), Indang, Cavite particularly in College of Nursing - Department of Midwifery with the students of Bachelor of Science in Midwifery (BSM) as respondents to assess the perceived challenges and opportunities during COVID-19 pandemic. The study has abled to: 1. identify the socio-demographic profile of the participants; 2. the perceived challenges of BSM students amidst Covid-19 pandemic at CvSU; 3. identify the opportunities of BSM students amidst Covid-19 pandemic at CvSU; 4. determine the significant relationship of perceived challenges and opportunities of BSM students during Covid-19 pandemic at CvSU; 5. determine the significant difference of perceived challenges and opportunities when grouped according to socio-demographic profile of BSM students during Covid-19 pandemic. Descriptive quantitative method was utilized, and all the population of the target respondents was used in the study. Due to the pandemic, social media was utilized to conduct the collection of data using the interview guide questionnaire. A total of 26 respondents were BSM students who were given an online survey questionnaire, and voluntarily responded accordingly. There were three respondents from BSM 3-1, twelve respondents from BSM 4-1, and eleven from BSM 4-Residency. Majority of the respondents were female with the ages ranging from 22-26 years old. Female were 23, male 3, mostly of the respondents were single, majority of them were employed and the religion affiliation of the respondents were Roman Catholic. The perceived challenges among BSM students during pandemic were evident, including adjustment in distance learning by using multimedia educational platforms, lack of internet connection and suitable devices, communication, and practical education. The students agreed that they were experiencing challenges in midwifery education during the COVID-19 pandemic. The highest rating was observed in terms of poor internet coverage in distance learning and limited of suitable devices. Based on the results, the students agreed that they were experiencing opportunities in midwifery education during the COVID-19 pandemic, such that the instructors were able to participate actively in the media platform. Further, the findings of the study revealed that the challenges experienced by the Bachelor of Science in Midwifery students during COVID-19 pandemic is not related with the opportunities they have experienced. More so, when grouped according to socio-demographic profile, the challenges and opportunities were not different in terms of age, sex, religion, marital status, occupation, and year level. The results of this study can set as a baseline for the Department of Midwifery to improve the system consisting of teaching and learning instructions and in order to improve the quality of education deliver to the students.
