BAYUNGAN, SHAN NICOLE R., CANUEL, MARINO G. JR., and OCAMPO, KENT NEIL O. Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. June 2022. Adviser: Ms. Ria Anne Rozul.
Political sophistication is how citizens are aware of politics, whether it is about the politician himself or the political activity (Luskin, 1987). It is particularly true for how voters use actual or false information while making political decisions such as casting ballots. The main objective of this research study is to determine the level of political sophistication in the decision-making process during national elections among the newly registered young adult voters in the City of Dasmariñas, Cavite. This research study specifically aimed to: (1) determine the demographic profile of the research participants; (2) determine the political sophistication that contributed the most tot the decision-making process of the newly registered young adult voters in the City of Dasmariñas, Cavite; and (3) determine if there is a significant relationship between the political sophistication and the decision-making process of the newly registered young adult voters in the City of Dasmariñas, Cavite. The researchers focused on the three factors of political sophistication: exposure, intelligence, and motivation. The researchers started formulating this research study from the Month of November 2021 to May 2022. researchers conducted surveys to the 384 newly registered young adult voters in the City of Dasmariñas, Cavite. The researchers used quantitative research to establish statistically significant conclusions, and descriptive-correlation research design to describe the variables and the naturally occurring relationships between and among them. The researchers asserted that the level of Political Sophistication in the decision-making process of newly registered young adult voters in the City of Dasmariñas and Cavite is very good. This showed that the research participants are politically sophisticated, and they can evaluate a politician or a candidate before making a political decision. The researchers also found out that intelligence is a factor of Political Sophistication that contributes the most to the decision-making process during national elections among the 384 newly registered young adult voters in the City of Dasmariñas, Cavite. This entails that the research participants can assimilate and organize political sophistication and they prefer a candidate who had a good educational attainment, a knowledge in politics, had an experience in the field of politics. The researchers also asserted that there is a significant relationship between the level of political sophistication and decision-making of the newly registered young adult voters in the City of Dasmariñas, Cavite. The level of political sophistication and the decision-making process of the newly registered young adult voters has a positive relationship, when the level of political sophistication increases, the level decision-making process also increases. The researchers made recommendations to the government, academic institutions, Sangguniang Kabataan, Young-Adults. As to the future researchers, the researchers highly recommend to have an in-depth study of the level of political sophistication and the decision-making process of young adult voters. The researchers also suggest to examine the underlying principles or reasons behind having a difference with the use of the three factors of political sophistication: exposure, intelligence, and motivation. The researchers recommend the study of different cities and municipalities in the vicinity of Cavite to widen the scope of the research study and come up with an overall level of political sophistication in the decision-making process.
