Summary: "A microprocessor is a programmable electronics chip that has computing and decision making capabilities similar to central processing unit of a computer. Any microprocessor based systems having limited number of resources are called microcomputers. Nowadays, microprocessor can be seen in almost all types of electronics devices like mobile phones, printers, washing machines etc. A microprocessor consists of an ALU, control unit and register array. Where ALU performs arithmetic and logical operations on the data received from an input device or memory. Control unit controls the instructions and flow of data within the computer. And, register array consists of registers identified by letters like B, C, D, E, H, L, and accumulator. Microprocessor communicates and operates in binary numbers 0 and 1. The set of instructions in the form of binary patterns is called a machine language and it is difficult for us to understand. Therefore, the binary patterns are given abbreviated names, called mnemonics, which forms the assembly language. The conversion of assembly-level language into binary machine-level language is done by using an application called assembler. Microprocessors understand machine code, but they will require a higher level programming language such as “C” or “Assembly” to write the program. An essential tool for programming a microprocessor is an Integrated Development Environment (IDE). This is software that is developed by the creators of the microprocessors which will compile the code into a language the machine can understand. This book is provide an introduction to microprocessors and how to program them so you can walk away with a general understanding of their functions within the electronic world."--Back cover
