Abstract: PEÑALBA, ROI TYRELL M. Knowledge, Attitude and Practices Relating to Rabies Control in the Municipality of Indang Cavite, Philippines. Undergraduate Thesis. Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. Cavite State University, Indang Cavite, May 2022. Adviser: Melbourne Talactac DVM, MS, PhD. A cross-sectional questionnaire was administered to 385 households to assess the level of knowledge, attitude, and practices relating to rabies control in the municipality of Indang, Cavite, Philippines. The objective of this study is to establish baseline data on Knowledge, attitude and practices relating to rabies control efforts in order to fully comprehend our present progress towards our goal of a "rabies-free Philippines by 2030." The KAP scores based on demographic information were analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) program software and categorized using Bloom's cut-off point. The overall mean knowledge (10.82, 83.23%) and attitude score (5.15 or 85.83%) of the residents of Indang, Cavite is considered good with mean scores equivalent to more than 80% correct average answer, while the overall practice mean score (4.46, 74.33%) is considered as moderate with 60-80% correct average answer. The knowledge score differed significantly in the category of sex (p= 0.048) wherein female respondents have shown statistically better knowledge scores than male respondents, and in the attitude part in the category of age (p=0.018) wherein the older generation (>32 years old) have shown higher attitude score than the younger generation (<32 years old). This study also shows that the respondents have high compliance and willingness to cooperate in different anti-rabies programs and ordinances implemented within their municipality. However, this study also reveals poor translation of good knowledge and positive attitude into proper practice towards rabies vaccination. Despite the residents of Indang having good knowledge about vaccination wherein a greater percentage (97.40%) believe that rabies can be prevented through vaccination, and despite the respondents' unprecedented willingness (100%) to submit their dog for vaccination, it shows that only 234 (69.23%) have had their dogs or cats immunized against rabies in the year prior to the survey, and among those only 208 (88.89%) can provide proof of vaccination while only 141 (41.72 percent) of pet owners are religiously following the yearly rabies vaccination for dogs and cats and a considerable number of the population (26.5%) will only have their pet vaccinated only if it is free or conducted during vaccination drives in their areas.
