Abstract: LIM, WILLIANNE JANE T. Knowledge, Attitude, and Practices towards Rabies and its control among Dog Owners in the First Congressional District of Makati City. Undergraduate Thesis. Doctor in Veterinary Medicine. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. June 2022. Adviser: Dr. Nelson J. Montialto. This study was conducted from February to May 2022, to ascertain the knowledge, attitude, and practices of dog owners from Makati's First Congressional District. Specifically, the study aimed to determine the knowledge of dog owners about the causative agent, mode of infection, clinical signs, distribution, and prevention of rabies; determine the attitude of the dog owners towards rabies and determine the practices toward rabies prevention and control. A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted among dog owners, who are 18 years old and above and a resident of the First Congressional District of Makati City. The survey questionnaire was administered online using Google forms and collected data from 300 respondents to quantify the respondents' knowledge, attitude, and practices toward rabies. The study revealed that generally, the community has an "average knowledge" regarding rabies, a "very positive attitude" towards the prevention and management of the disease, and "highly acceptable" practices in terms of the prevention and control of rabies. However, some misconceptions were observed regarding the fatality of clinical rabies in both humans and dogs, the areas where rabies tends to be prevalent, and the perception regarding sterilization as a method for rabies control. To address some incorrect impressions of rabies and the methods for control and prevention, giving more emphasis on information dissemination is seen to improve KAP levels in the community. It is recommended that future studies should also include an assessment of the impact of rabies awareness campaign programs and whether such activities have significantly aided in the reduction and elimination of rabies cases in the study area.
