Abstract: BAGO, MARYFEL, Self-esteem and Academic Performance of BS Accountancy and BS Criminology Students of Cavite State University, Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Psychology. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2007. Adviser: Amor A. Santiago This study was conducted to find out the relationship and difference of self-esteem and academic performance of Bachelor of Sciences in Accountancy and Bachelor of Sciences in Criminology students of Cavite State University. It aimed to (a) determine the demographic profile in terms of: age and gender; (b) determine the level of self-esteem of the respondents; (c) determine the academic performance of the respondents in terms of their General Point Average; (d) ascertain the relationship of self-esteem and academic performance and; (e) ascertain the difference of self-esteem and academic performance of Bachelor of Sciences in Accountancy and Bachelor of Sciences in Criminology students of Cavite State University. This study was conducted from November 2006 — January 2007, which focused mainly on the self-esteem and academic performance of Bachelor of Sciences in Accountancy and Bachelor of Sciences in Criminology students of Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite, SY 2006 — 2007. One hundred and twenty-six (126) respondents answered the test. The study used a test based on Stanley Coppersmith’s Self-esteem Inventory to be applicable to the other variable which is academic performance. The result showed the majority of the participants were female and sixteen (16) and seventeen (17) year old students were more than 50 percent of the total population. The result shows that the students of BS Accountancy have a moderate level of self-esteem and BS Criminology has a high level of self-esteem and majority of the respondents have good grades. The study revealed that self-esteem of the respondents has no significant relationship with their academic performance. It also revealed that there is a significant difference between the academic performance of BS Accountancy and BS Criminology students but there is no significant difference between the self-esteem of the respondents.
