A study was conducted in the registered orchid growers of the Department of Agriculture located in the upland towns of Cavite. Specifically, it aimed to determine the socio-economic characteristics of the orchid growers, the cost, return and profitability of orchid production, the relationship between net income of orchid production and some selected variables. Likewise, it aimed to identify the problems of orchid growers in production and marketing aspects. A total of 35 respondents from five municipalities of Upland Cavite were personally interviewed. Their average age is 54, mostly, with three dependents and with seven years experience in orchid growing. Most of them are college graduates who are now business operators of 1,000 sq. m. farmland. Their average capital is P61,914.00 while the average cash cost, non-cash costs or total cost is P87,087.14. Furthermore, the average return on investment is approximately 0.51 the ratio of net income to sales is 1:0.20 while the ratio of net income to total cost conducted is 1:0.20. Vanda, Dendrobium, Phaleonopsis and Cattleya are the most commonly raised orchids in the area of study because they are the most demanded varieties. They are sold on a cash basis either in the farm or in the nearest market. Educational attainment, seminars/training attended and volume of production are significantly related to net income. However, the respondents encountered the problems on pest and diseases, changes in climate and unavailability of chemicals. On the other hand, the most common problems on marketing were lack of better market outlets, delayed payment and rejection of products.
