Abstract: HERNANDEZ, GABRIELLE ANN N. Knowledge, Attitude, and Practices Regarding Rabies and Rabies Prevention of Veterinary Medicine Students of The College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, Cavite State University. Undergraduate Thesis. Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. June 2022. Adviser: Dr. Desiree C. Del Mundo. The study was conducted from March to May 2022 through an online survey to assess the students' knowledge, attitude, and practices on rabies and rabies prevention. The study aimed to 1) Determine the demographic characteristic of the participants; 2) Determine the knowledge of veterinary medical students towards rabies and its prevention in each year level; 3) Determine the attitude of veterinary medical students towards rabies and its prevention in each year level; and 4) Determine the practices of veterinary medical students towards rabies and its prevention in each year level. A total number of 232 respondents participated in the study, and the 3-point Likert scale method was used to designate the scores, mean a score higher than 2.33 is better. Based on the results, veterinary medical students are highly knowledgeable regarding rabies and prevention with grand weighted mean of 2.64. This indicates that CVMBS is effective in teaching veterinary students and molding them to have deeper understanding on the nature of the disease and how to control its spread. Veterinary medical students also have a highly positive attitude regarding rabies and prevention with a grand weighted mean of 2.66. This suggests that CVMBS students disregard disinformation, misconceptions, and beliefs that may influence negative attitude perception. In terms of practice, veterinary medical students have highly acceptable practices regarding rabies and prevention with a grand weighted mean of 2.73. This implies that CVMBS veterinary students follow appropriate vaccination protocols, proper wound management and promote community awareness for rabies prevention. This reveals that the level of education also has effects on displaying correct behaviors and practices and students apply theories that they learn from school. In comparison, sixth-year students are more competent in knowledge (81.36%; n=18), attitude (85%; n=19) and practices (85%; n=19), while first-year students have the least percentage scores in terms of knowledge (68.50%; n=11) and attitude (65%; n=10). However, with regards to practice, third-year students have the least percentage score (70%; n=22). This suggests that third year students still need to further apply their learning about rabies in preparation for their clinical internship classes.
